Why Yohji Yamamoto Belongs in the Space of LOWONIDA

I’m Koga Tanaka, owner of LOWONIDA hair design.

Today, I’d like to take a moment to talk not about hair techniques, but about the space of LOWONIDA itself.

I have loved fashion for as long as I can remember, and from my late teens, when I decided to become a hairdresser, I have been drawn to the brand Yohji Yamamoto.

Predominantly black, with a sense of restraint that carries strength and subtle elegance.
It doesn’t shout, yet its presence is unmistakable.
This sense has naturally influenced both my approach to hair design and the creation of the space at LOWONIDA.

During my work in Europe, involved in fashion shows and magazine shoots,
I had the privilege of building ongoing connections with people associated with Yohji Yamamoto.

On one occasion, in a casual conversation, someone said to me,
If you ever open your own salon, let me know.”

Those words stayed with me.
When I decided to open LOWONIDA, I reached out to them.

And indeed, I was introduced to the person who designs Yohji Yamamoto’s stores,
and I entrusted them with everything—from the salon design to the creation of all the furniture.

The finished space is a place where I feel genuine gratitude every day, just for being able to work here.
Customers sometimes notice, saying, “Is this Yohji?” and moments like that make me truly appreciate the subtleties of the space.

It’s not flashy, but it’s calm and enduring—a place where clients can feel comfortable returning.

Here, I have the privilege of working with each client one-on-one, creating hair designs while fully attentive to their needs.
I feel truly grateful to be able to do this every day.

Although LOWONIDA is still a small, newly opened salon, my goal is to make it a place where people say,
For style and elegance in Himeji, go to LOWONIDA.”

I would be delighted to meet as many clients as possible who resonate with the atmosphere and vision of LOWONIDA.
